The final application deadline for ADA Access Improvement Grant applications was May 1, 2019. These grants help Twin Cities metro nonprofit arts organizations to make arts facilities, programming and activities more accessible to people with disabilities. This is the 10th year the program has been administered by VSA Minnesota for the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council (MRAC), with funding from the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund, which voters approved in 2008. In this time, $1,705,635 has been awarded to 149 projects conducted by 76 organizations.
Nineteen applications were submitted by May 1. In the preceding grant round, 9 of 15 applications submitted in December 2018 were funded, totaling $82,635. (See related article) A similar amount is available to award following a grant panel review of project applications on Friday, May 31, at the Cowles Center for Dance in downtown Minneapolis. Awards will be made in early June.
While this is the last round of grants to be administered by VSA Minnesota, which will close its office at the end of September, MRAC has said it will continue the program into 2020, with guidelines likely changing somewhat.
